It is Oscar Week and Local Big Time is at it again ranking the different Oscar Categories over the last 20 years, one day at a time. Today we are tackling the Best Actor category. When you see the heavyweights on this list, its almost impossible to rank order them. Some well informed readers (Trot), will tear these rankings to shreds and I encourage everyone to take their opinions into consideration as I personally know their movie knowledge sits right around the PhD level, seriously though. But without further ado, here they are. Have at it:

2. Daniel Day Lewis – There Will Be Blood – 2007

The Next Binge-Worthy TV Show Review

Catastrophe is Binge-Worthy
by, Billy Mumphrey

Catastrophe is the next show you have to binge watch.

First airing two years ago in a six episode Season 1 on Amazon TV, Catastrophe has really snuck up on a lot of people. In an era where hundreds of shows are coming out on multiple watching platforms, I feel like Catastrophe has slipped by the main stream population of the United States. And everybody needs to start watching because it is the funniest “sorta-new” show on “TV.” (I “grew up” on “Bennett Brauer” comedy.)

Comedian Rob Delaney and Writer/Actor Sharon Horgan have created one of the most dynamic and off-brand shows about two people running into some unplanned adversity in their lives. Behind this universal premise is two absolute sick-o’s (Delaney and Horgan) rolling somewhat normal life choices into a swear-bathed smorgasbord of hilarious jokes and awkward situations. It’s pretty great. And while Horgan and Delaney are awesome, probably the smartest thing they did was the inclusion of an equally funny supporting cast. The show has been renewed for a Season 3 and 4 and Season 3 airs April 28th on Amazon.

Go binge watch the first two seasons, its quick, funny, and you won’t regret it.

Artist Cuyler Smith
by, Billy Mumphrey

Artist Cuyler Smith has created something so incredible that it might just be the best thing Local Big Time has ever seen. A friend of mine passed this Artists name to me and when I saw what it was I had to share. Smith has drawn hundreds of sports movie icons into sports trading cards. I will share a few of his drawings here, but you have to HAVE TO go to his website and see the others, they are crazy awesome.

Rugby Sevens is on the Rise

Rugby Seven on the Rise
by, Billy Mumphrey

Rugby in the United States is not nearly as popular a sport as it is in other countries. We have the NBA and the NFL, so Rugby sits right around college campus level of importance in the USA. Well, there is a Rugby Tournament coming to the United States you need to know about. The Las Vegas Invitational is a National Rugby Sevens Tournament played in Sin-City Las Vegas March 2-4. Here is what you need to know about “Sevens Rugby.”

Right off the bat, the main difference between regular rugby and Rugby Sevens is the amount of players. Usually there are 15 players on a rugby pitch and as you can guess, there are only 7 players on a Sevens team. Rugby plays 40 minutes halves; Rugby Sevens, you guessed it, plays 7 minute halves. Devotees will probably disagree with me, but I think the less players and shorter halves speed the game up considerably and make each score (called a Try) more important. Both versions are incredibly fun to watch, and I would argue that watching rugby players run with the ball and hit each other is just as entertaining as watching football players run and hit. I think with the rise of Rugby’s popularity in the USA in the last 30 years, we will see more and more people watching rugby. In fact, Rugby Sevens has become so popular around the world that in 2009, the Olympic Committee voted to add Rugby Sevens to the Olympic Games. And in 2016, Fiji National Team won the first gold in the Summer Olympics.

There’s also another interesting aspect to Rugby Sevens that I think will particularly interest fans in the USA. Unlike normal Rugby tournaments, Ruby Sevens tournaments usually take place all within one weekend and it lends itself to more of a party atmosphere, which the fans have totally embraced. People from countries around the world come and dress up in flashy and outrageous costumes to support their teams. This is the major reason why Las Vegas is the perfect venue for the upcoming Rugby Sevens tournament in March. Party atmosphere in the party capital of the world seems like a fitting choice. Local Big Time will definitely be watching this tournament and we highly suggest you do to. Check out the videos below:
